:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Joseph Harris -- A great entry in the series : Brad Thor's latest book, Foreign Agent, is another solid thriller in this franchise. This time out, Horvath must track down the source responsible for not only interfering with his own missions, but also is responsible for assassinating the US Secretary of Defense, all with the intent of dragging the US further into the Middle East mess. Horvath traipses all over Europe, slowly peeling back the cover of a rogue pseudo-ISIS mastermind. Along the way, he engages with several new colleagues, including a German police officer and a couple of Syrian resistance fighters, all while going toe-to-toe with Russian agents. At the same time, he reconnects with an old colleague. Both old and new colleagues may be additional fodder for future installments. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2018 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Patricia Hagerty -- Hero Harvath combines cold-hearted violence with sympathy towards victims : Scott Harvath, apparently a recurring figure in Thor’s books, is assigned to seek revenge for the killing of several CIA operatives and their girlfriends who are ambushed in Anbar Province. He feels guilty because the agents were there based on intelligence from one of his sources and is eager to avenge the deaths. Harvath seems like a Mitch Rapp-type character but he is less one-dimensional than Rapp; he is concerned over a woman he loves and whether they will be able to be together. He also is sympathetic towards victims and additional women he encounters. On the other hand, he is completely cold-hearted in his assassinations of the various bad buys he is sent to eliminate. Since he is not directly employed by the government, operating under the radar while giving President Porter complete deniability. The plot of this book is pulled right out of today's headlines. Isis is killing Americans with the help of the Russians. A very effective Russian agent becomes his primary target. Sascha Baseyev is the sole survivor in his family from a deadly terrorist attack on a Russian school. His only goal in life is revenge and he doesn't care who he kills. He has inserted himself into Isis but is working for the Russian government. The complicated plot includes several episodes of torture used to find the intelligence needed to stop Baseyev. Action-packed but as noted some thoughtful aspects to Harvath’s character. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2016 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from FUWS -- Its okay...the Hollywood trend continues, : Not bad by any means. I feel like mr. Thor lost some of the magic ever since Foreign Influence. I read all Scot Harvath series up til this point. Im too far invested to not finish until the most recent book. Im still waiting for a average female to make an appearance. Apparently, all females in the world are drop dead gorgeous according to Thors books. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2018 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from JoPa -- Not the usual high quality : I've read all of Thor's books and he's been my favorite author of this genre after Vince Flynn. However, this book felt like it was outsourced to some ghost writer. It was slow reading, with implausible plot twists and overall below the level I am used to see from Thor. I hope it is not an indication he is burning out and running out of new ideas. Despite of it, I am still looking for his next book in the hope of better things to come. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from K. Bryant -- Another Norseman Success : Because every Brad Thor book involves combat & most include knives in that combat my bank-account dreads each new novel, for I am incapable of resisting the urge to buy whatever knife the Norseman carries. The Syrian episodes in Foreign Agent introduced to me Winkler knives & I’m thrilled. Great story, great weapons, great times. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2020 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Passin' Through -- Don't Be Misled by 'Millions of Copies Sold' : I will give a five-in-one review for the five Thor books I just 'read' in one day. I wish the author progress, and he currently has all the tools - characters, plot, action - but lacks the most fundamental one. There's no poetry or music in his writing. Reading a Thor book is like bumping along a cobblestone road on hard bike rims. I prefer the smooth roller coaster thrillers of Lee Childs, Vince Flynn, John Stanford, or JD McDonald. - 3.0 out of 5 stars from Jeremy -- Eh : I just didn't find this book terribly interesting. Once again the author seems to have found "endings" for his recent stories and they mirror each other and it just feels weak. I wish the characters had depth but 16 books in its just not going to happen. The DC stuff was interesting but I would suggest reading Vince Flynn's series as they have more detail, setup and execution ( Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2021 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Judy Briody -- Not for me : I really am not writing a review because I started to read this book but it was a little too gruesome for me and a bit too real-life ... what is going on in the world today and I get enough of that on the news and in the papers. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from The Elite Book Group -- A rip-roaring ‘all-American hero’ novel : Russia has a problem. How to rid themselves of the pestilence of ISIS without being seen to be doing it. Having identified one of their best agents, Sacha Baseyev, they infiltrate ISIS’s core in order to carry out devastating attacks on the United States of America, thus hoping that the US will retaliate and wipe out ISIS for them. Sacha Baseyev has been recruited from the survivors of the terrible Beslan massacre and so has plenty of reasons to hate the Chechen fundamentalists who form a large part of the Islamic terrorist movement.
